Freckles – laser treatment

Freckles are small red or light brown patches of pigmentation on the skin; colour is promoted by skin exposure and fades during the winter months; freckles are usually confined to the face, arms and back; it is genetic and associated with fair complexion.

Sunscreens prevent the development of new freckles and help prevent the darkening of existing freckles.

The most effective and long lasting treatments remains to be a single session of CO2 laser resurfacing but the recovery takes a longer time; patients have had lasting effects of up to 18 years. Now, there is an option of using Fraxel Re:store dual 1-2 treatments or combined with copper bromide for a single treatment.

Benefits:

  • Freckles will be removed and left with even skin tone and smooth texture of skin.

Recovery:

  • With CO2 laser resurfacing the initial recovery is 8 days, although the redness may last a few weeks to months.
  • With Fraxel laser, the recovery may take a week but the redness remains for only a short time.
  • With Fraxel laser and copper bromide combination, the recovery may take 10-14 days.
